Classy Girls
#23 by the Lumineers
The Jukebox is thumping! A BIG SHOUT-OUT goes to Gray, Bill Ferguson đ¨đŚ , Debra Martin, primalbeet and Hank Cotton, for their submissions to last weekâs prompt, Right Place Wrong Time, by Dr John. Readers, you can find their stories in the comments of that post! And Martyâs Headliner, Night Trippin, was a wicked awesome introduction!
Week #22 Featuređ
The week #22 Feature goes to Hank Cotton for his short story titled, Right Place Wrong Time. Yeah, I know what youâre thinking đ¤ wait, arenât you Hank Cotton?
Yes and no, itâs complicated. Iâm more like Hankâs âhandlerâ than anything. And heâs written a great story here, if I do say so myself. Not to mention this isnât his first submission â the standalone chapter/story titled, Wyoming, was a great representation of the toil that life out âover the roadâ can put on a relationship. I think it did Zac Brownâs, Colder Weather, proud.
And in this story, Hank shows us how even though we might think everythingâs going sideways â that weâre in the Right Place at the Wrong Time â weâre actually right where weâre supposed to be.
What was that Brooke said last night? Right Place, Wrong Time?
âDamnit man, story of my life.â

The Lumineers are an American alternative folk band formed in Ramsey, New Jersey, in 2005, and now based in Denver, Colorado. The founding members are Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion, piano); cellist and vocalist Neyla Pekarek joined the band in 2010, and was a member until 2018. The Lumineers emerged as one of the most popular folk-rock/Americana artists during the revival of those genres, their popularity growing in the 2010s. They are known for their energetic live shows and several international hit singles, including "Ho Hey", "Stubborn Love", "Ophelia", "Angela" and "Cleopatra". (Wikipedia)
âClassy Girlsâ is one of the band's more obscure tracks, but is often played during their live performances. Itâs the second track from their self titled album, âThe Lumineersâ, released in 2012. In the song, a fast-moving player tries to kiss a woman at a bar, but is met with her principled resistance as she tells him, âClassy girls donât kiss in bars.â
Our song prompt this week is brought to us by Gray. Grace, as I call her, predominately writes memoir stories â my favorite! I just love her style, and often find myself drifting off into her stories as I read them. I highly recommend subscribing to both of her publications, Turtle Meat: The Mixtapes and The Southern Writers Guild(which Hank is also a member). Grace hasnât missed a prompt since joining the Jukebox, and even provides her own mixtape at the end of each of her stories!
Hereâs this weekâs Headliner, Classeâ Girls!
Some people mightâve guessed Iâd pick a different song/band, but it was always going to be The Lumineers for me. Always. Wesley Schultz doesnât overthink poetryâhe tells a story and leaves enough room for us to find our own way inside it. And I love that.
Have fun, yâall. -Gray
Iâm so excited to see what yâall come up with this week!
