Right Place Wrong Time
#22 by Dr. John
What a way to kick off the New Year! Thanks to everyone who participated in last week’s song prompt, Mirror, by Rick West. This was the first time that our song has been written by a Jukebox Band Member and it turned out amazing! There were so many great submissions — primalbeet and I even did a Live! In it I read my entry aloud, and interviewed Rick on the inspiration behind the song.
Week #21 Feature🏆
This week’s feature goes to Debra Martin, for her submission titled, Mirror. Her post was originally published back in the summer. It’s her own beautifully written song titled Mirror, and I am honored that she chose to share it here with us.
Readers, I highly recommend that you scroll down to the video of Debra, and let her sing the song to you as you read the lyrics. It’s powerful stuff.
I want to look in the mirror and finally love who I see…

Now here’s this week’s prompt, Right Place Wrong Time, by Dr John.
"Right Place, Wrong Time" is a song by American musician Dr. John. It was the first single from his sixth album, In the Right Place, and became his biggest hit single. (Wikipedia)
During the summer of 1973, the song peaked at number nine on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It is ranked as the 24th biggest hit of 1973. In Canada, the song reached number six.
Some of the lines came from contributions by Bob Dylan, Bette Midler and Doug Sahm. A verse lyric from the song (”Just need a little brain salad surgery/got to cure my insecurity”) was the inspiration for the title of the album Brain Salad Surgery by the English progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, replacing the working title of Whip Some Skull on Yer. Both titles are slang expressions for fellatio.
“Right Place, Wrong Time” was included in the soundtrack of the 2000 comedy film Lucky Numbers. The song was featured in an episode of American Horror Story: Coven, an episode of That 70’s Show, and in the movies Dazed and Confused (1993) and Fun with Dick and Jane (2005). In 2008, the song was included in How I Met Your Mother‘s fourth season ending “Right Place, Right Time“. It also appeared over the opening credits in the film Sahara, as well as the trailer for the second season of Fargo.
It was also included in the soundtrack to the 2010 video game Skate 3 and also included in Black Lightning (S3:E7). The intro was sampled by Dr. Dre and used in the intro to the movie Deep Cover. And it was used in trailers for the television series, Poker Face, too.
Our song prompt was selected this week by Marty D. Snow. A longstanding member of the Jukebox, Marty writes Fiction and Nonfiction. I am a big fan of his stories, and I’m sure you will be too! Be sure to give him a follow, you won’t want to miss Dudley’s Weekly Book Recommendation! No doubt inspired by this week’s prompt as well.😎
Here’s this week’s Headliner, Night Trippin’!
I chose Right Place, Wrong Time, by Dr. John for this week’s prompt. The first song on the 1973 album In the Right Place, from the funky New Orleans Night Tripper.
My oldest brother played college baseball in New Orleans, so I received an early introduction to the Crescent City’s music, food, architecture, people and culture. It is an amazingly unique city with no equal.
Dr. John, was a totally different kind of musical animal, worth checking out. If you are unfamiliar, I recommend listening to - Marie Laveau, or, How Come My Dog Don’t Bark (When You Come Around), to get a feel for what the good doctor’s music is all about.
Okay, now it’s your turn!
