Time And Time Again
My Week #27 Submission
Time After Time
Calling all Poets, Fiction, or Non-Fiction writers that love music — Share your prose of 1500 words or less, using the prompt, Time After Time.
As I listen to it, I can see her…
Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick and think of you Caught up in circles, confusion is nothing new Flashback, warm nights almost left behind Suitcase of memories
Time And Time Again, she’s always been there — whether I deserved it or not.
You all know her as my Sweetheart, but she’s much more than that to me. She is home, in the truest sense of the word.
From the first moment I laid eyes on her I was hooked. And not just by a little bit, I swallowed the bait whole. And she’s been reeling me in ever since.
While reading a client’s novel this morning that I can’t name yet, I came across a quote that jarred me.
It said, “Maybe I just want you to stop running.”
I looked over at my Sweetheart, she’s sitting on the couch in her pajamas. That’s it. That’s the thing she’s been trying to get across to me for the past, almost thirty years now.
If you’re lost and you look then you will fine me, Time After Time If you fall I will catch you I’ll be waiting, Time After Time
And she has finally gotten through to me — I’ve stopped running. But I don’t deserve the credit for it. She is the reason. There’s no doubt in my mind that without my Sweetheart always being there for me, I’d still be adrift. I’d still be running from life, and all that it brings.
When I went off to school, she stayed and waited for me.
When we separated, back when our first born was just two years old — she was just waiting on me to get my shit together, and come to my senses.
When I thought I had it all figured out, and chasing a dollar was more important than my family — she was there behind the scenes, doing everything in her power to keep the ship afloat.
When I couldn’t take it anymore, and ran off looking for death — she was the only one in this world who didn’t give up on me.
And after she’d gotten me home, but I still continued to run away from life — she was the one who gave me a reason to keep trying to find my way home.
Time And Time Again — whether I deserved it or not, she’s been there waiting for me.
I’ll spend the rest of our days trying to make it up to her — showing her, Time After Time, that our time together is the most precious gift I’ve ever received.
