Do I have a Constant Craving?
I’ve craved it all at some point or another in my lifetime: Attention. Money. Sex. Drugs. Hell, it might be easier to name off the things that I haven’t craved!
But most of those cravings have fallen to the wayside these days. So what is it that I crave for now?
Knowledge. I gotta have it. I’m completely and hopelessly addicted — I can’t get enough!
I am constantly seeking to gain more understanding. And the pursuit of knowledge is the only thing able to feed the beast. I wonder about everything — I’m like a one year old in that sense. But unlike an infant, I’ve already developed the ability to look for answers. So instead of being at the mercy of the small circle of influence that surrounds me locally, that’s exactly what I do.
And I’m very fortunate to live in a day and age where I am able to feed my Constant Craving with wisdom that has been handed down to countless generations, from all across the world. Never before, at any point in history have people had such a library at their disposal.
Wealthy scholars and philosophers used to be the only ones who had even the tiniest bit of this knowledge available to them. And still, they had to work infinitely harder to obtain it. Could you imagine taking a year-long trip to visit The Imperial Library of Constantinople, only to arrive and see all the world’s knowledge smoldering in the ashes, of what once was the greatest library the earth had ever known? No wonder the world regressed into darkness not many years afterward…
But today there’s a new Imperial Library — the Web. And it’s able to satisfy this Constant Craving of mine, 🤔most of the time.
Gosh I hope they don’t burn it down anytime soon!

I think that this is the best time to be addicted to knowledge! The web can be a great source, but I sometimes have to run things by my personal bullshit monitor (i.e., my hubby!) - he's very good at detecting the stuff. I tend to double or triple or even quadruple check 'net stuff because there's a lot of hooey hiding among the facts. But the ability to id bugs and plants, or to figure out what kind of owl is hooting out in the woods? That's pure magic!
